Beit Lehi Typeface

A partnership between Utah Valley University and the Beit-Lehi Foundation has led to an archaeological excavation 22 miles southwest of Jerusalem. In an effort to provide a premiere learning experience for the students of UVU, the Digital Media Department has documented the process for several years. One of the tasks included the development of a hybrid typeface that would capture the essence of brush-written Hebrew characters and apply them to a Latin alphabet, resulting in a typeface that included both sets of characters. The typeface is appropriately named Beit-Lehi.

An instructional video detailed creating a typeface from concept to completion. The characters were sketched in pencil, scanned, outlined in Adobe Illustrator, and imported into Glyphs. The length of the project was six months.

A website included documentation that detailed the entire creative process of creating the Beit-Lehi typeface. The site included an instructional video, a digital guide, and detailed notes about the development of the typeface.
